Junior-Year Checklist

This list is a guide to help you navigate your junior year. It is your responsibility to integrate the list as how it fits best into your personal and academic goals.

These are suggestions to help you throughout your year, but should not be seen as an all encompassing list or a required checklist. Also, be sure to reflect back on the Sophomore-Year Experience checklist and look ahead to the Senior-Year Experience.

It's  your experience. Make the most of it. 

Academics

  • Meet with your academic advisor and faculty mentor to discuss core curriculum and your graduation plan.
  • Use to run a Degree Evaluation.
  • Use tutoring and writing resources in the Student Success Center that can assist you with your academic plan.
  • Look at requirements and timelines for graduate or professional school, if applicable, and take admission prep courses and tests. Review for MCAT, LSAT, GMAT or GRE, if appropriate.
  • Talk with faculty regarding letters of recommendation for graduate or professional school, if applicable.
  • If applicable, renew your FAFSA.

Community and Involvement

  • Participate in Fall Welcome.
  • Participate in on-campus events and activities and show your Billiken pride at SLU athletic events.
  • Consider participating in a Campus Ministry retreat or mission trip.
  • Consider ways to strengthen your leadership skills and pursue leadership opportunities in your student organizations.
  • Consider your service opportunities for the year; be involved as much as your schedule allows.
  • Enhance your relationship other faculty and staff members.
  • Join professional organizations as a student member.

Career Preparation

  • Meet with a career counselor to discuss career paths and opportunities.
  • Update your r茅sum茅 and post it to to have it critiqued by a career counselor.
  • Establish a 鈥淛ob Agent鈥 and view potential internship and on-campus recruiting opportunities in .
  • Start planning for an internship.
  • Connect to your prospective career field with activities such as informational interviews, job shadowing, research opportunities, service learning or internships.
  • Attend job-search workshops and listen to podcasts related to internships and the job search.
  • Attend SLU career fairs to network with employers; establish a networking list.
  • Research jobs and companies matching your interests, abilities and values; investigate what employers are looking for in your chosen career field.
  • Conduct a mock interview with a career counselor (and consider having it recorded as a digital file).

Personal Growth

  • Develop your leadership skills by considering ways to refine your campus involvement. What will your legacy be?
  • Reconsider and refine your values and passion. What is your calling and purpose?
  • Reflect on who you are and who you want to be. What is your motivation?
  • Look into routines and practices that can assist you with balance in your life. What are your priorities?
  • Take time to consider who your role models are in your life. Why are they your role models?
