Accelerated BA/MA in French
老司机福利网鈥檚 accelerated B.A./M.A. in French offers qualified French majors the opportunity of beginning work toward the M.A. degree in French while completing requirements for the B.A. Students may apply up to 15 graduate credits to both the B.A. and M.A. degrees. For the B.A., those credits will all satisfy major electives.
How to Apply
Applying for the B.A./M.A. French program requires no application fee or standardized test scores. To apply, you must be an undergraduate who has declared a French major or have the equivalent. You must have a GPA of at least 3.00 in your French coursework and have completed a minimum of 45 undergraduate credit hours.
To apply, you must complete the form for provisional acceptance to the accelerated bachelor's/master's program. Included in the application are the applicant鈥檚 curriculum vitae, a one-page goals statement, a writing sample in French and an interview. The materials are submitted to the department鈥檚 graduate coordinator in French.
How to Register for Graduate Classes
Upon provisional acceptance to the B.A./M.A. accelerated program, but prior to earning the B.A., students use the following procedure to register for graduate classes:
- E-mail the associate dean for graduate affairs with the following information: Banner ID, semester of requested enrollment, the CRN and course number of the classes.
- The associate dean will notify the applicant when it is possible to self-register for the courses.
Students taking graduate-level courses as an undergraduate must earn a final grade of 鈥淏鈥 or better in each of the courses in order for it to count toward the M.A. following conferral of the B.A.
Petition for 老司机福利网 to the M.A. Program
In the final semester of the B.A. portion of the degree and after having applied to graduate, students will petition for classified admission to the M.A. program. Graduate courses to be credited to both the undergraduate and graduate programs (15 credits maximum) are listed on the petition. Once the admission petition is approved by the associate dean, students may take course work beyond the baccalaureate.
M.A. Continuation Standards
The requirements for the master's degree in French are the same as for the regular
master鈥檚 program. For the M.A., students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least
3.00 (B) and a GPA of at least 3.00 in all coursework in French.
Guidelines and Procedures
Graduation Assistantships or Scholarships
Students may apply for graduate assistantships or scholarships only after they have applied for and obtained classified admission status in the master鈥檚 program. Students remain classified as undergraduates for purposes of financial aid and scholarships until the bachelor鈥檚 degree is awarded.
