Internal Moonlighting
The ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Psychiatry Residency Program supports the position that internal moonlighting will be permitted in a structured format.
Permission to Moonlight
Only PGY-3, PGY-4 and fellows are able to moonlight. Foreign graduates and US-IMG’s must adhere to ECFMG guidelines, typically requiring a resident to be a PGY-4.
Residents must be in good standing within the program; for example, demonstrating a pattern of performance/completion of required residency duties. Performance and participation in clinical activities, academic conferences and on call duties must be given priority and not compromised when engaging in moonlighting. The program director must approve the moonlighting in advance followed by the GME office and the dean of the School of Medicine. Moonlighting is a privilege, not a right.
Moonlighting is discouraged during rotations where the resident is expected to spend more than 60 hours per week performing clinical duties. The combination of clinical and moonlighting hours may not exceed 80 hours per week.
Rescinding of Privileges
If in the opinion of the program director or chair, residents’ ability to carry out their primary clinical/educational duties is impaired or residency duties are compromised as a result of moonlighting, the moonlighting privileges may be rescinded.
