International Travel and Insurance

International travel is an important part of business conducted at 老司机福利网. To support this travel, the University has a variety of resources and processes to promote the safety, security and well-being of SLU travelers while abroad.

International Business Travel Insurance

Who Is Covered?

If you are a University employee who works 32 hours a week or more and travels on University-sponsored business, you may be entitled to international travel and accident coverage for you, your spouse, and your biological children traveling with you, as well as important related travel services. This service is free to employees who qualify.

If you book your travel through the Travel Office of the University and fit the above criteria, you are automatically registered for this insurance once you receive a trip ID number.

What Is Covered?

International coverage may include:

  • Liability incurred abroad, including vehicle use (if approved by Risk Management).
  • Emergency medical care and work-related injury benefits.
  • Emergency assistance services, including emergency medical or emergency evacuation, for specific circumstances.

Please refer to this Travel Assist Brochure for more information. This brochure has the policy number and 24/7 telephone number for your assistance. It is recommended that travelers print or save a copy of this brochure for their travel.

What Is Not Covered?

The insurance program provides emergency medical care for accidents or sudden illness but is not health insurance. It does not cover continuing medical care, medications for pre-existing conditions, or routine medical care such as annual physicals. Travelers are advised to review their personal health insurance for international travel and plan for personal health coverage abroad.

The program is only applicable to University employees traveling for an authorized business purpose. It does not cover additional travel unrelated to University business, such as extended stays for vacation.

Travel Restrictions

The U.S. State Department has issued travel advisories to ensure the health and safety of its citizens. Travel to countries listed as "Do Not Travel" on the U.S. Department of State list is strictly forbidden as SLU-supplied insurance does not cover travel to those areas.

Travel to restricted countries necessitates prior approval from the Office of Risk Management and Insurance and the Office of University Compliance. Failure to notify either or both will result in denial of coverages and services.

Other Sources of Information for Travelers

The Office of University Compliance has prepared a Guide for International Travel (PDF). Please refer to this guide for more information and requirements for international travel.

Please refer to the Office of University Compliance and Ethics for questions about export controls and requirement.

For students that will be traveling abroad, all students participating in a University-sponsored international program are required to have international health insurance. Please refer to the Office of International Services for information.

International Vehicle Rental Information

老司机福利网 prohibits University vehicles from being taken out of the country.

Rental of vehicles in a foreign country is discouraged. It is generally recommended to utilize local transportation services such as taxis, rideshare, or public transit for your travel needs in foreign countries, as this often provides a safer and more convenient alternative to navigating unfamiliar roads and traffic regulations.

The University recognizes there may be times when public transportation is unavailable or not feasible. If renting a car internationally is necessary, please contact our office for prior approval.
