Two of the letters must be from science professors and one letter should be from someone of your choice (e.g., dentist, research, or work manager/supervisor). If your undergraduate institution has a pre-health advisory committee, a committee evaluation is recommended as an alternative.

For the 2024-2025 cycle, DATs taken before June of 2022 will not be accepted, and the exam will need to be retaken to be considered for admission.

International Coursework for Applicants from Non-U.S. or Non-English-Speaking Canadian Institutions

All candidates must meet the minimum requirements for admission, including 135 quarter units or 90 semester units of college coursework from an accredited U.S. or English-speaking Canadian institution. This includes U.S. institutions with campuses overseas or study abroad programs in which the coursework appears on the transcript of an U.S. or English-speaking Canadian institution.

If you were educated at a non-U.S. or non-English-speaking Canadian institution, you are still welcome to apply. Please carefully read the information below, which outlines additional steps you must take to complete your application. Please note that financial aid is limited to United States citizens and permanent residents; therefore, you must be able to fund your own education and living expenses for the entire three-year program.

To ensure processing of international transcripts, please follow the steps below:

ADEA AADSAS Application

  • In the 鈥淐olleges Attended鈥 section, report all colleges or universities attended, including any coursework taken at a foreign institution or study abroad program.
  • In the 鈥淭ranscript Entry鈥 section, enter all courses taken. This includes any coursework taken at a foreign institution or study abroad program, as permitted by the ADEA AADSAS system. This option is not available for most overseas schools.
  • Request official transcripts from all U.S. and English-speaking Canadian colleges attended to be sent to ADEA AADSAS for verification.
  • For all non-U.S. or English-speaking Canadian colleges, order an official course-by-course credential evaluation by either the (WES) or (ECE) to be submitted to ADEA AADSAS by the application deadline.
  • If selected for an admission, applicants will be required to submit an official transcript from all international institutions. These documents will be required prior to orientation by June. Official transcripts must be sent directly to Dugoni School from the issuing institution(s). Notarized copies are not acceptable.

  • If coursework was completed using another school鈥檚 program to study abroad, report the U.S. school whose program was used and proceed to enter in all related information, including coursework in the Transcript Entry section. In Transcript Review, mark the courses as study abroad.
  • If coursework was completed by a study abroad company such as IES, ISA, CIEE, or DIS, directly via the undergraduate institution, or by any other method proceed with the options below:
  • If your full credits and grades for these courses appear on your undergraduate transcript, list these courses normally with the rest of your undergraduate work. During the transcript review process, you would mark these courses as 鈥淪tudy Abroad.鈥 No additional documentation is necessary.
    • Do NOT report your study abroad school as a foreign institution.

  • If your credit and grades for these courses do not appear on your undergraduate transcript, you should report that you attended a foreign institution and order an official course-by-course credential evaluation by either the World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) and submit to ADEA AADSAS by the application deadline.

Additional Admissions Information

Transfer Students/Advanced Standing: Only under unusual and compelling circumstances does the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry accept transfer students. Incompatibility of dental education programs inhibits transition from another school to our program. Students requesting such classification usually matriculate with the first-year class. No student will be admitted to advanced standing beyond the second year. Special action regarding transfers is required.

Health Requirements, Medical and Disability Insurance: Should you be offered acceptance to the program, prior to matriculation, health requirements must be met, and documentation submitted to the Admissions Office, as follows:

  • Medical Examination: Submit our school's "Health Requirement Examination Form," signed by a health care provider confirming that a medical examination was completed within 6 months of the date of matriculation.
  • Measles, Rubella (German Measles) and Mumps: Documented vaccination (2 vaccines) with live attenuated Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) virus is adequate. A history of measles and rubella as childhood diseases is not sufficient. If documentation is not available, blood tests showing immunity will suffice.
  • Tuberculosis: Submit the report of a 2-step Mantoux tuberculosis skin test. (Commonly referred to as PPD) within 6 months of matriculation. With a history of tuberculosis OR a positive skin test, submit the provider's report of a chest X-ray taken within 6 months prior to matriculation. Chest X-rays may be required at intervals, and suppressive medication may be recommended.
  • Hepatitis B: Every dental student is required to submit documented proof of presence of antibodies to the Hepatitis B virus AND complete the Hepatitis B vaccination series. It is recommended that this be done prior to matriculation; in all cases, however, it must be done before a student is allowed to treat patients. If a student does not have documented proof of having antibodies to this virus, the vaccination series is available at our dental school for a fee.
  • COVID-19: Compliance with immunization requirements for all Dugoni School students is mandatory. Immunization requirements have been established to safeguard the health and well-being of patients, students, and all healthcare workers. Note: full vaccination against SARS-COV2 (COVID-19) with an FDA-approved vaccine is required.

Medical and Disability Insurance: All enrolled students and residents participate in mandatory medical insurance and disability insurance programs selected by the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. Unless proof of current health insurance is provided to university specification, no one shall be exempt from the mandatory health insurance. Insurance premiums are assessed with tuition and other fees.
