Applied Portfolio Management utilizes a unique mentorship program to connect students with some of the top finance professionals from the St. Louis area’s robust finance industry. These mentors offer students guidance and insights into the current best practices that they employ in the field, giving students a strong foundation of theory and practice.
Asset Consulting Group, LLC
Asset Consulting Group, LLC provides investment advisory services. The company offers investment and portfolio management services to trusts, endowments, foundations, insurance company reserves, employee benefit plans, high-net-worth individuals, and estates. Asset Consulting Group serves clients in the United States.
Kevin Moore is a consultant who works closely with both institutional and private investor clients. Moore's primary responsibilities include asset allocation analysis, portfolio construction, investment policy development and review, investment manager searches and due diligence, portfolio analysis, implementation and rebalancing, and performance evaluation. Prior to this role, he was part of ACG's research team. He has participated in the APM mentoring program for the last two years. He enjoys working with and mentoring students that are getting ready to enter the financial services industry. The motivated students are always seeking advice on the APM coursework, interviewing and networking, which makes the mentor role very rewarding.
Craig Coleman joined ACG in 2021 as a research analyst. He oversees the long-only research efforts for global equity and global fixed income and collaborates with consultants and clients to provide idea generation across all long-only asset classes. Coleman previously served as a principal and senior investment consultant at Mercer, where he was responsible for advising clients on asset allocation, investment manager selection and strategy implementation. He also served on the Domestic Equity Ratings Review Committee and Equity Strategic Research team. Before its acquisition by Mercer in 2018, he was with Summit Strategies Group for seven years. He served in multiple roles within investment consulting and public market research, where he was the team leader. Coleman holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Southeast Missouri State University. He has also earned the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation.
Edward Jones

John Boylan is an equity analyst in the research department at Edward Jones and has 25 years of analytical experience across a variety of industry sectors. He currently covers the consumer staples sector. Boylan graduated from DePauw University with a bachelor’s degree and earned his MBA from Wake Forest University. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of St. Louis. He enjoys supporting students and helping them learn the fundamentals and "art" of the investment process.
Logan Purk began his career at Edward Jones in 2006 as an associate in the firm's Rotational Development Program, working with Edward Jones Trust Company and Equity Research. In 2007, he joined the firm's Research department as an associate analyst covering the financial services sector, and in 2011, he joined the industrials team as an analyst covering transportation stocks. In 2018, Purk joined the technology team covering semiconductors, software and IT services stocks. He graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2010. This is his first year working with Professor Doellman's Applied Portfolio Management class. Logan has also worked with students at Washington University and his alma mater, the University of Missouri, for stock analysis projects.
Kyle Sanders is an equity analyst in the Research department, where he is responsible for the coverage of various U.S. financial services companies. He joined Equity Research in 2013 as an associate analyst on the Technology team. He began his career with Edward Jones in 2008 in the Internal Audit department. In that role, Sanders was a manager responsible for leading audits of financial, operational and compliance processes. Prior to joining Edward Jones, he was employed as an associate in the audit and enterprise risk services division of Deloitte. Sanders is from St. Louis and has been working with SLU students in Professor Doellman's Applied Portfolio Management class for several years.
James Shanahan is an equity analyst in the research department at Edward Jones. He has over 20 years of equity research experience, covering various financial services and real estate companies. A St. Louis native, Shanahan graduated magna cum laude from the Chaifetz School of Business in 1994 and later earned an MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of St. Louis. He has supported SLU students for several years as an industry mentor for the CFA Challenge and Professor Doellman's Advanced Portfolio Management class.
Kennedy Capital Management
Founded in 1980, St. Louis-based Kennedy Capital Management, Inc. (KCM) delivers investment strategies to corporate and public pension funds, endowments, foundations, multi-employer plans and high net-worth individuals. The privately held, employee-owned boutique investment firm specializes in managing micro-to-mid cap strategies across the growth-to-value spectrum focused on generating attractive returns for its clients.
Ryan Dunnegan is a portfolio manager for small-cap growth and SMID cap growth strategies at Kennedy Capital Management (KCM). He is also a Research Analyst responsible for selecting and monitoring securities within the health care sector of KCM’s universe. In addition, Ryan co-manages the Equity Research Internship Program. Dunnegan began his investment career at KCM in 2006 during a two-year internship. He subsequently transitioned to associate equity analyst with KCM from 2008 to 2009 while earning his master of accounting degree. Following the completion of his master's degree, he spent nearly four years at KPMG LLP, where he provided audit services in accordance with U.S. GAAP and IFRS standards to an array of public and privately held global companies. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and his master's in accounting from ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø. He has worked with SLU students for many years in the KCM internship program and is excited for the opportunity to be an APM mentor.
Alex Mosman is the portfolio manager for the small-cap select and small-cap select SRI strategies at Kennedy Capital Management (KCM).  He was a full-time research analyst covering information technology for over 11 years at KCM after gaining experience in equity analysis through his two-year internship at KCM.  Mosman grew up in the St. Louis area and attended ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø. He graduated summa cum laude and earned a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance. He was happy to join the mentorship program to give back to SLU and help students gain industry insights into investing and capital markets.
Quinn Nolin is a research associate at Kennedy Capital Management focusing on small and mid-cap industrial equities. He has four years of professional experience in equity research, including prior internships at other St. Louis-based firms. He also held executive roles at Washington University’s student investment fund while pursuing his undergraduate degree. Nolin graduated magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a B.A. in economics and finance. He also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 2022. Nolin, a Des Moines native, enjoys the mentorship process and seeing students grow and develop professional skills.
Andrew Shinn is a research analyst at Kennedy Capital Management, where he selects and monitors securities within the information technology sector of KCM's universe. Shinn grew up in St. Louis, attending ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø High School, then went to Fordham University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in economics. He later earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He is happy to participate in the APM program to give back to SLU students who want to learn more about equity research.

As of Sept. 30, 2021, NISA manages $317 billion in fixed-income and equity securities and over $174 billion in derivative notional value. NISA manages assets for some of the largest institutional investors in the world. Client portfolios include investment-grade fixed income, derivative overlay, and index-like equity investments. NISA is 100% employee-owned and based in St. Louis.
Shane Legatzke grew up in Wisconsin and attended Truman State University for undergrad. He works at NISA Investment Advisors as a senior analyst in the credit research department, where he has covered sectors including aerospace and defense, airlines, and basic materials for three years. At Truman, Legatzke enjoyed participating in a student-managed investment fund and competing in the CFA Research Challenge, and he is excited to help students pursuing similar opportunities at SLU.
Craig Robbins joined NISA in 2012 and provides support to the fixed-income and derivatives portfolio management group in the area of corporate bond credit research. Robbins has spent most of his time in credit research covering banks, REITs, life insurance and P&C insurance. Prior to NISA, he worked as a service center broker for Scottrade. He earned a B.S. in computer science from the University of Missouri, an MBA from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and an M.S. in finance from Washington University in St. Louis.

Aaron Goeckner is a research analyst at Semper Augustus Investments Group LLC, a position he has held since 2018. As a member of the investment team, Goeckner supports portfolio managers throughout the research process. A generalist, he keeps up with day-to-day portfolio maintenance as well as aiding in the generation of investment ideas across all sectors and geographies. He also performs data analytics and content creation for various marketing, internal reporting and research functions within the firm. He was a Chancellor’s Scholar at Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance with an emphasis in investments as well as a minor in accounting. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Ian Mikkelsen is an investment research analyst at the Wells Fargo Investment Institute, where he is responsible for coverage of the energy sector and also contributes to the management of the firm’s Value Equity List. Mikkelsen joined the equity research team as an associate analyst in 2016, with previous experience at Wells Fargo in trading and operations. He received his Bachelor of Science in business administration with a double concentration in finance and economics from Appalachian State University and is a CFA charter holder.
Larry Pfeffer has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry. He is currently senior lead retail investment research analyst at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, with responsibility for the management of the firm’s Focus and Equity Select Lists as well as coverage of the industrials and materials sectors. He previously covered industrial stocks at Avondale Partners. Pfeffer graduated summa cum laude from ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø in 2010 with a B.S. in business administration (concentrations in finance and accounting). He is a CFA Charter holder.
Mike Ruesy is an equity sector analyst with the Wells Fargo Investment Institute and is responsible for coverage of the financial services sector. He also manages the firm’s international list strategy and its small and mid-cap (SMID) list strategy, and has more than 25 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Ruesy was a portfolio manager, equity analyst, and trader for COUNTRY Financial, a life and property and casualty insurance company. Before joining COUNTRY, he was a senior equity analyst and trader with Caterpillar Investment Management Limited. He received a BBA and an MBA from Texas Christian University, is a CFA Charterholder, and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of St. Louis.
