Research Interests
I am especially interested in the ways culture produces and naturalizes ideologies around race and identity through feeling and sentiment both domestically and abroad, through studies of international adoption, missionary schools, music, and disaster relief abroad, among others. I am quite involved with my St. Louis organizations that promote and educate on topics related to public history, and I am convinced that there is no better place than St. Louis to study American culture. I have written and administered a number of grants, including one from the National Endowment for the Humanities, to explore collective memory alongside scholars in the social sciences and libraries. As an experienced administrator, I have also worked extensively with interdisciplinary programs such as first-year seminars and honors programs and academic support staff teams. I also continue to write and publish as a poet.
