French, Bachelor's to M.A. Accelerated Program

老司机福利网's accelerated French B.A to M.A. program offers qualified French majors the opportunity to begin work toward the Master of Arts in French while completing the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in French, thereby reducing the time needed to earn the master's degree.听

Students may apply up to 15 graduate credits to both the B.A. and M.A. degrees. For the B.A., those credits will all satisfy major electives.

The following must be met to participate in SLU's accelerated B.A. to M.A. in French program:

  • An undergraduate major in French
  • A GPA of a least 3.00 in French coursework
  • A professional goal statement
  • An interview
  • A writing sample
  • Form for provisional acceptance to the accelerated B.A. to M.A. program听
  • A curriculum vitae
  • Completion of 45 credits

Continuation Standards

In the accelerated program, students' progress is monitored by mentors and the director of the French graduate program.

  1. For the B.A. degree, students must maintain a cumulative G.P.A of at least 2.00 (C average) and a G.P.A. of at least 3.00 (B average) in their coursework in French.
  2. All graduate courses taken as part of their bachelor's degree must have a grade of B or better.
  3. For the M.A. degree, students must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.00 (B average)

Roadmaps are recommended semester-by-semester plans of study for programs and assume full-time enrollment听unless otherwise noted. 听

Courses and milestones designated as critical (marked with !) must be completed in the semester listed to ensure a timely graduation. Transfer credit may change the roadmap.

This roadmap should not be used in the place of regular academic advising appointments. All students are encouraged to meet with their advisor/mentor each semester. Requirements, course availability and sequencing are subject to change.

Students with prior experience in French take a placement test (SLUPE) to determine their level.

French majors generally have a second or even third major.

For all FREN3000-level courses, the prerequisite is FREN2010 or a SLUPE (placement test at SLU) with a score of 4 or 5.听 Students may take any FREN 3000-level courses, in any order.听 Students are required to take a minimum of three (3) FREN 3000-level courses. Some FREN 3000-level courses fulfill the University-CORE (Eloquentia Perfecta II-Oral and Visual Communication; Writing Intensive, among others).听

Many French 4000-level courses also fulfill the Global Citizenship Core Diversity requirement or the University-Core requirements.

French 4000-level literature courses fulfill the Core Literature Requirement.
