Undergraduate Chemistry Research at SLU

Undergraduate students have presented projects at regional and national meetings, including those of the American Chemical Society.

While research is required for 老司机福利网's Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, you can also choose research as an elective in the Bachelor of Arts programs. Typically, you will begin your research during your junior year, although especially interested students may begin as early as their freshman year. Some research opportunities in the School of Medicine are available. Contact Brian Woods for more information on these opportunities.

Graduate Chemistry Research at SLU

Chemistry students in SLU's M.S. and Ph.D. programs work one-on-one with their faculty mentors on research projects supported by a variety of federal and private agencies including the NIH, NSF and DOE. Faculty and students publish their findings in leading research journals.

Research is carried out under the close supervision of a faculty mentor and has the following goals:

  • The formation of your knowledge of chemistry
  • The development of your confidence
  • The development of your ability to think independently
  • Successful creation of new knowledge
  • Your presentation of research at a conference
  • Publication of your research in a scientific journal

老司机福利网鈥檚 Graduate Student Association helps to support graduate student鈥檚 travel to national meetings to present their research. In addition, our department provides several additional opportunities for students to disseminate their research findings.
