Softball player on pace for record-breaking season

It has been more than 20 years since 老司机福利网 softball had a player break the record .449 batting average in a season. That mark is in jeopardy as junior Olivia Silvestre 鈥26 is hitting at a .464 clip.
Silvestre, a geological and environmental sciences major, is chasing Gina Carbonatto鈥檚 鈥07 mark set in 2004. Silvestre is looking to become just the seventh Tiger in history to bat over .400 in a season since the program began in 1977 and the first since 2012.
Silvestre is getting it done in various record trending ways. Her 11 doubles are just two away from cracking Pacific鈥檚 single season top-10, her five home runs are three away from the top-10, her .732 slugging percentage is already second and her .555 on-base percentage would be a new single season record.
Nationally, Silvestre ranks 20th in hits, 25th in doubles, 29th in batting average and 30th in on-base percentage. Her success at the plate has been the culmination of a process that begins well off the diamond and in her approach and preparation.
鈥淚 took the time in the offseason to reflect on both my successes and my failures,鈥 Silvestre said. 鈥淚 took note of what I felt, my thought process and how I could keep each situation simple. A big switch from last season has been my confidence in the box. I feel like my pitch selection and approach is more refined and allows me to be successful.鈥
Silvestre鈥檚 batting average is more than 100 points higher than the stellar .347 she posted last year with the Tigers. She was named a 2024 All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the season.
First-year Head Coach Sam Duran-Kukuk has had a front row seat watching Silvestre mix her passion for the game, a high-level game IQ and knowledge of her own abilities into the lethal attack fans have seen on the field.
鈥淗er softball IQ is incredible, from the way she analyzes the game to understanding her own personal abilities is something I have not coached in a very long time,鈥 Duran-Kukuk said. 鈥淪he has this incredible ability to make in-game adjustments that are only seen at the highest level in our sport. If you look closely, you can see her focusing on a 鈥榞ame plan鈥 every single pitch.
鈥淎s a pitcher and a pitch caller, it is very difficult to throw to Olivia because once you think you have her figured out, she makes her adjustment and attacks. Not only has Olivia proven that she can hit for power, she also has shown her ability to put a ball in play and utilize her bat control for what the team needs that inning.鈥
Silvestre has knocked a hit in 26 of 30 outings, including 14 multi-hit games and five three-hit performances.
Fans will have four opportunities to see Silvestre and the Pacific softball team in action this week as the Tigers host Sacramento State Tuesday at 4 p.m., followed by a three-game series with Saint Mary鈥檚 Saturday and Sunday to open West Coast Conference play. .
