Two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from Jan. 1 to March 28, 2019, 387 individual cases of measles have been confirmed in 15 states. This is the second-greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since measles was eliminated in 2000. California is one of the states identified.

Recommendations:
- If you are not protected, get the MMR vaccination as soon as possible. While not perfect, a single dose of the vaccine is 93 percent effective in protecting against measles; two doses are 97 percent effective.
- Importantly, getting even just the first dose of the vaccine now will prevent you from being excluded from the university, should a measles case be discovered here.
- Students can get the vaccine for a discounted fee from Student Health Services located in the Cowell Wellness Building.
