Career Services and Students Travel to Indianapolis for 2024 Career Trek

On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Career Services and 14 students traveled to Indianapolis for the 2024 Career Trek. This trip allowed students to network, visit a new city, and explore new opportunities.
On the first day of the trip, Thursday, Oct. 24, the students visited Eli Lilly's headquarters where they received a tour and learned about ways employees can grow within the company. Students were also told about the history of Eli Lilly, including an overview of many medications and treatments developed from their founding in 1876.
Next, students visited Indiana Sports Corp where they received a presentation from SLU alumna Alyssa Chavez, and a panel presentation from senior leadership where they learned about the team's responsibilities and how the presenters got to where they are. Students then participated in a networking event with 18 industry professionals and toured the team's office space.
On Friday, students started with a visit to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) headquarters. Students received a presentation, and then a tour of the location. For the first presentation, students heard from the Associate Director for Leadership Development, Mark Trumbo about his journey to where he is today.
The main takeaway from Trumbo's speech is bringing one鈥檚 authentic self to their profession is extremely important. Then, during a panel presentation, students received the opportunity to talk with four young industry professionals participating in the NCAA Postgraduate Internship Program. Students asked numerous questions, many about the process of leaving college and starting in a professional position.
The next stop was Eskenazi Hospital, operated by the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. For this visit, students talked with a group of industry professionals, discussing the numerous and expansive range of opportunities within a healthcare system. Students then received a tour of emergency facilities, equipment repair facilities, and even got to view the city from the helipad.
To end the day, students attended a networking event with SLU alumni who live in the Indianapolis area, getting to network and enjoy light drinks and refreshments.
