Education
Research Interests
International and foreign legal research has always been of particular interest to Professor McDermott. She attended the Brussels Seminar on European Union Law at the Institute of European Studies of the Universit茅 Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium. She also participated in a series of five institutes sponsored by the American Association of Law Libraries to train law librarians specializing in foreign and international legal research. Her publications analyze various aspects of reference service and legal research.
Professional Organizations and Associations
She is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries and has served on several AALL committees as well as the Local Advisory Committee for their 100th Annual Meeting.
Community Work and Service
Professor Margaret McDermott served as Head of Reference and Faculty Services in Vincent C. Immel Law Library until she obtained emerita status. She continues to teach a specialized upper division course in Research Methods in International and Foreign Legal Research.
Margaret McDermott received her B.A. from Barat College and her M.S.L.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She earned her J.D. degree from Washington University in St. Louis while serving as Reference / Public Services Librarian in the Freund Law Library.
