Education

Joanne Cognac Vogel earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History from ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø, and a Master of Arts Degree in Library Science from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Practice Areas

Joanne started at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Law Library in 1975 and is formerly the Head of Access Services, which includes Circulation, Stack Maintenance, Interlibrary Loan / Document Delivery, Print / Electronic Reserves, Archives and Special Collections. Prior to assuming that position, Joanne worked in Acquisitions, Government Documents, and managed Archives and Special Collections. Before coming to the Law Library, she worked five years at Pius XII Library in Serials and Cataloging.

Research Interests

Her research interests include women in Congress, Native American law, and the history of childhood. Since the Law Library holds the congressional papers of Leonor K. Sullivan, Missouri’s first Congresswoman, Joanne frequently presents programs about Mrs. Sullivan to SLU and other educational and community groups.

Community Work and Service

Joanne’s community service includes being the volunteer director and chair of a committee that manages the archives and historical collections for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, a collection of over 39,000 items.
