Instructional Media Center

老司机福利网's Academic Technology Commons (ATC) provides many self-service multimedia resources for faculty, staff and students.

Computer workstations have specialized tools for creating presentations and educational materials including video and audio editing. There are finishing tools and supplies available for laminating as well as dry mounting. A Scantron automated grading system is also available for grading standardized test forms.

Scan Slides, Images and Documents

Create digital versions of your slides, photos or other materials with our film or flatbed scanners. We also have a machine that will scan your print document and email you a .pdf version of it. We also offer Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software in the lab that allows you to scan printed documents and convert them to editable Microsoft Word files.

Record and Edit Video and Audio

老司机福利网 faculty and staff can check out cameras or audio recorders to use. (Students need faculty approval to check out equipment). In addition, anyone can reserve our studio or control room for recording purposes. Files can then be edited on lab computers using Adobe Premiere Pro for video and Adobe Audition for audio. Audio Duplication and Editing

The Instructional Media Center has several options for editing or copying audio"

  • CD and DVD Duplication - A free-standing tower duplicator is available to make up to six copies of an original disc at one time. The duplication takes approximately five minutes per batch. The unit can copy data discs, audio CDs, and video DVDs. (ITS does not support or condone using this resource to duplicate copyrighted materials.)
  • Video/Audio Lab - This facility allows you to combine audio from multiple sources for more involved projects. The equipment available includes:
    • Two cassette recorders
    • One CD player
    • One CD recorder
    • One broadcast quality turntable
    • One 1/4" reel-to-reel recorder
    • One minidisc recorder
    • Two S-VHS VCRs
    • Multiple broadcast quality microphones
    • One audio workstation running Adobe Audition

You can mix almost any combination of these sources to CD, cassette, reel-to-reel, minidisc, the audio workstation or a VHS videotape. This resource requires approximately 10 minutes of instruction to get you up and running with simple projects, so book time in advance.

Video Editing

If you need to modify a video beyond merely copying it,  Adobe Premiere Pro is installed on all graphic workstations. These computers also have Firewire cards to interface with digital camcorders and external hard drives. A MiniDV deck is available as well.

Be prepared to invest some time in learning non-linear editing. These systems can edit a variety of video formats and enable you to create professional fades, cross-dissolves, superimposed titling, rolling credits, music, and sound effects with voiceovers.

Though staff may be consulted for specific questions, in-depth training is not provided.

Reservations

To reserve any of these resources, call the Instructional Media Center at 314-977-2919 and press 1 on the voice menu.

Grade Tests with OpScan

A centrally-located automated test grading system is available to faculty, who may use the system to gather information from a variety of different forms.

Please Note: Before purchasing forms, consult with ITS or Scantron to confirm that the forms are compatible with this unit.

Special forms can be self-scored with results printed directly on the form to identify answers that are incorrect.

Results may be exported as raw data for use in Excel, SPSS, or similar software. Many faculty members also choose to print out reports that identify test scores and statistics. Reports also may be saved to a flash drive or disc.

Design and Print Fliers, Brochures and Posters

Each workstation is loaded with the Adobe Creative Suite as well as Microsoft Office so you can create anything from simple fliers for an event, to PowerPoint presentations to complete conference posters.
