This year鈥檚 lecture is entitled Division, Distrust & Deliberation: American Democracy in Transition and will focus on the continuing legitimacy of governmental institutions in the current political landscape.  Panelists will address voter distrust of governmental institutions, elections, and politicians, the administrative state post-Chevron and the effects on rulemaking discretion for federal agencies, the new lens for evaluating government appointees, and issues related to reducing the federal government and federal workforce: Tara Grove, Vinson & Elkins Professor of Law, University of Texas at Austin School of Law Cheryl Boudreau, Professor of Political Science, UC Davis Anita Chabria, California Columnist, Los Angeles Times Mike Madrid, Political Consultant at GrassrootsLab, former Political Director for the California Republican Party, and author of The Latino Century Erin O鈥橬eal (Moderator), Director, Capital Center for Law & Policy and Visiting Associate Professor of Law, McGeorge School of LawThe evening will consist of a moderated conversation, followed by time for audience Q&A and a hosted reception.
