Cardinal Blase J. Chupich, Archbishop of Chicago, recognized Father Caruso鈥檚 leadership, 鈥淚 am grateful for the work Father Caruso has done these past ten years and for his many contributions as a member of the Archdiocesan School Board. His pastoral care for the school鈥檚 students, faculty, and broader community, has made an incredible impact on the lives of countless individuals. Father Caruso鈥檚 deep commitment to Catholic Jesuit education is an inspiration to us all and I pray the Holy Spirit will guide him in the years ahead and during this next ministry.鈥

Prior to becoming president of Saint Ignatius, Father Caruso served as a tenured faculty member in Catholic Educational Leadership at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where he held a number of leadership positions including department chair, director of the Catholic School Administration program, and director of the L.E.A.D. Center which focused on equity, advocacy, and diversity.

鈥淔ather Caruso is a scholar-practitioner who will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the School of Education, especially in the areas of forming leaders for our Catholic schools, scholarship centered on solving real-world problems, and community outreach focused on racial justice and educational equity,鈥 said Dr. Gary Ritter, Dean of the School of Education.

鈥淚 am looking forward to being part of the respected School of Education at Saint Louis University," Father Caruso said. "A Catholic University in the Jesuit tradition has a meaningful mission to form the spirits and minds of its students. Preparing women and men to be teachers and educational leaders for the Church and wider community is a privilege because of the expansive impact it will have on these leaders and the families they will serve. I have enjoyed meeting the administrators and faculty in the School of Education and I look forward to working with them in the future. I am very grateful to all who have welcomed me and I hope that I can be a force for good at SLU.鈥

Father Caruso will join the School of Education faculty full-time in August 2021.
