Top 5 Majors at SLU

With nearly 13,000 students on campus, there's no such thing as typical education at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø. Take classes in French and entrepreneurship, or biology and theatre. A lot of students enter SLU interested in some day attending medical school or practicing another health related profession. That's one reason our undergraduate degree in health sciences is a popular one. Students study anatomy and physiology, and learn about research methods, health care management, health care technology, health care policy, health law and more. Tracks include preparation for medical school, pharmacy college or further training as a physician assistant, occupational therapist or physical therapist.

Nursing students are admitted as freshmen at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø, which means you start taking courses relevant to your major during your first year at SLU. Students get clinical experience in pediatrics, public health, gerontology and other competitive fields at more than 50 hospitals, clinics and agencies around the St. Louis area.

With a commitment of six years instead of four, SLU's physical therapy program leaves you with a little something extra for your effort: a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. Clinical practice at one of more than 300 health care institutions allows students to focus on special interests, from athletic injuries to helping children with disabilities.

It's no wonder biology is such a popular major at SLU. With contacts at the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Saint Louis Zoo, as well as two field stations for research, students get plenty of hands-on experience. Both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts are offered in biology, preparing undergraduates for jobs right out of school, or ongoing education in all kinds of medical and scientific fields.
